Ward aiming for Premiership return

NEW Sheffield United signing Ashley Ward says that he opted for a move to Bramall Lane to have one final go at experiencing Premiership football.

The 32-year-old striker has been around the block a few times in his career, having played with the likes of Norwich, Crewe, Derby County, Blackburn Rovers, Barnsley and Bradford City.

Having played in The Premiership with five different sides, Ward is keen to make it into the top-flight with his sixth different team.

Ward signed a two-year deal with Neil Warnock's side after leaving Bradford, and says that he chose to move to The Blades as they were the best bet of making the Premiership.

Warnock's men made it all the way to the Division One play-off final last term, but suffered a massive case of stage fright at the Millennium Stadium and blew their chance of promotion.

Ward believes he has a good chance of making the big league again, and hopes his experience can provide the goals to fire The Blades back into the big time.

"There were one or two others interested but Neil is positive - so I know I've made the right decision," said Ward.

"I needed a bit of a change and I've joined a team who have better prospects of promotion.

"It is important for me to have a good season with an ambitious club."
