Sven pleased with progress

Sven-Goran Eriksson feels Leicester's "lucky" 1-0 victory at Sheffield United highlights their progress.

Foxes boss admits narrow Blades win was lucky

Sven-Goran Eriksson admits the manner in which his "lucky" Leicester side escaped with a 1-0 victory at Sheffield United shows the progress the Foxes have made. Andy King scored the only goal of the game after just three minutes to give Leicester a fourth victory in their last five Championship matches. The result leaves them just four points behind sixth-placed Leeds but the Foxes were indebted to some excellent saves from goalkeeper Chris Weale. Eriksson felt the lowly Blades gave City their toughest game since he arrived at the club and was relieved to escape with another three points. Asked if it was the most difficult game since he was appointed in October, the former England boss said: "I think so. "Difficult, very difficult. They are very aggressive, strong, very direct, put a lot of tests on our back line and goalkeeper. "So I'm extremely happy with three points here because we were lucky a couple of times, our goalkeeper made two excellent saves. "So it was a good win, I think a couple of months ago we would have lost a game like this. "I think we have started to fight better than we have done in the past, especially away from home so it's very good for us. A little bit lucky but also some very good individual performances. "I think the goalkeeper and the two centre-halves were brilliant today, but the whole team showed the spirit."

Blades reaction

Blades boss Micky Adams, who was up against his former club, is still yet to record a win since he took over at Bramall Lane and the defeat leaves his side in the relegation zone. Adams was at a loss to explain how United came away with nothing and urged his players to show a positive response to their latest defeat. The Blades are now without a win in eight games in all competitions and Adams said: "It's one of those nights, a sloppy goal conceded. "What can you say, I thought we were the better team but for some good goalkeeping bit of good fortune, we definitely should have had a penalty when (Sol) Bamba handled it in the second half. "But that's football. In terms of the effort and the application I can't fault the boys, I wish I could. "I wish I could go into the dressing room and rip their heads off but I can't after that. "We've dropped into the bottom three I believe and it's how we respond now. "We've got to pick ourselves up, if we have any less application than we've shown tonight then we'll get beat wherever we go, but I think we're making strides." Adams also revealed that on-loan defender Joe Mattock will be sent for a scan after being carried off with knee and ankle damage.
