Sky Bet cut John Pemberton's odds on becoming the next permanent Sheffield United manager to 1/3.

John Pemberton odds-on to replace Micky Adams as Sheffield United manager.

Sky Bet have shortened John Pemberton's odds to become the next permanent Sheffield United manager from 4/1 to 1/3 after the online bookmaker received a flurry of bets on former Blades player. Sheffield United are looking for a new manager for the second time in five months after Mickey Adams was sacked from his role on Tuesday. Adams, who left Port Vale to replace Gary Speed in December, failed to halt United's slide into League One, finishing 23rd. Pemberton, who is currently the club's Academy manager, opened as 4/1 joint favourite with Russell Slade, but a number of wagers from Sheffield and the wider Yorkshire area has prompted Sky Bet to steadily cut his odds to take over permanently. Sky Bet's Helen Jacob said: "We opened up with 4/1 about the former Sheffield United defender, but punters were quick to snap that up. "More chunky bets today at 4/5 followed leading us to further slash the odds of the Sheffield United Academy manager to 1/3." Russell Slade and Aidy Boothroyd are currently joint second favourite behind Pemberton at 6/1, while Doncaster Rovers manager Sean O'Driscoll is 9/1 to move across South Yorkshire. Former boss Kevin Blackwell is available at 25/1.
