Ex-Blade appointed as Wilson's number two

Frank Barlow has been appointed as Danny Wilson's assistant manager at Sheffield United, the club has confirmed. The 64-year-old, a former Blades player, teams back up with Wilson after previously working with the ex-Sheffield Wednesday manager at Hillsborough and Bristol City. Wilson's appointment at Bramall Lane was met with hostility from some fans when he succeeded the sacked Micky Adams at the end of last month. But Barlow, who signed for the Blades as a 14-year-old and went on to make over 140 appearances before leaving in 1972, says he is looking forward to working with the manager again. He said: "I suppose I've come full circle. There were two real pulls to take this job. "The first is to work with Danny Wilson again. He's a top quality manager and a trustworthy man and the other is the opportunity to return to my first club." Barlow also spent time at Chesterfield during his playing days, while his wide and varied coaching roles have additionally included spells with Birmingham, Nottingham Forest, Hull and Wigan.
