Dowie plans Dennis deal talks

Charlton boss Iain Dowie is ready to discuss a new contract with Dennis Rommedahl.

Charlton Athletic boss Iain Dowie is ready to discuss a new contract with winger Dennis Rommedahl.

The Denmark international joined The Addicks over two years ago, but struggled to make an impact under Dowie's predecessor Alan Curbishley.

Rommedahl has been a key figure in the early days of Dowie's reign at The Valley and could be rewarded with an extension.

"Dennis had been doing well for the previous couple of games, but then he got injured, which was disappointing," said Dowie.

"He will be the first to admit that his time here has not been as fruitful as he would have liked, but he is showing to me now that he is capable and hopefully he will come back from Denmark in good shape.

"Dennis has got lots of assets, so we have to concentrate on getting the best out of him.

"If things carry on the way they are at the moment I see no reason why discussions over a new contract should not begin sooner rather than later."

Meanwhile, Dowie insists he is not worrying about the possibility of Liverpool recalling Scott Carson in the New Year.

Carson is currently on loan at Charlton and the goalkeeper has impressed, but there have been suggestions his parent club could cut short his stay.

Dowie added: "There is a recall clause which can take effect in January, but I cannot worry about that.

"We were delighted that Rafael Benitez let us have him on loan and it is good for Liverpool as well because they get a young keeper playing regular first-team football.

"If Rafa makes the decision to bring him back, then that is what he will do."
