Chairman agrees share-out deal

Charlton have announced that chairman Richard Murray is to assume full control of the club. Murray has agreed a share buy-out with his fellow board members and bond holders and now plans to inject much-needed funds at The Valley. He admits the future of the club had been uncertain after their failure to secure promotion back to the Championship last season. "This was potentially one of our darkest hours," said Murray. "However, agreement has been reached with my fellow directors for me to take sole control of the club through what is effectively a management buy-out of the plc subsidiaries.

Positive

"The new money I am injecting into the club will ensure we go into the new season with a competitive team. "I would like to reassure all our supporters that this is an immensely positive forward step and an important part of the process of rebuilding our club." Phil Parkinson's men, who finished fourth last term but lost in the play-offs, are at home to Bournemouth on 7th August in their first game of the new campaign.
