Hammers chief believes striker is back on song

West Ham United manager Avram Grant has hailed Carlton Cole's return to goal-scoring sharpness. The England international netted twice in the second-half of Tuesday's shock 4-0 win over Manchester United to book the Hammers' place in the last four of the Carling Cup. Cole took his goal tally to three from 19 appearances, hardly a prolific return for a player who has hit double figures in his previous two campaigns. But Grant has backed the former Chelsea front-man to play a crucial role in West Ham's bid to lift themselves out of the bottom three. He said: "Carlton lost a little bit of his confidence and was not fully fit on the physical side as well. "But in the last few weeks he's been working really hard and I'm delighted. We need him because he's a good striker." West Ham take on Sunderland at the Stadium of Light this weekend in a game which can be seen live on Sky Sports.
