West Ham vice-chairwoman Karren Brady has warned manager Sam Allardyce that his team are “underachieving”.

The Hammers have slipped to 10th after a strong start to the season, having won just one of their last 12 Premier League games.

Allardyce's contract expires at the end of the season and there are no plans to discuss an extension to the 60-year-old's deal until then.

And Brady told The Sun: “Someone says in the press today that we flattered to deceive up to Christmas – but I 100 per cent disagree.

"The fact is that West Ham are underachieving and it is Sam Allardyce's task to identify the reason and rectify it. He would wish it no other way.

“I can almost hear Sam’s post-match ‘discussion’ with the players (after defeat to Arsenal) from the boardroom. He wants and expects more.”

West Ham host relegation-threatened Sunderland on Saturday – a club Allardyce was linked with this week before they hired Dick Advocaat to succeed Gus Poyet until the summer.

Allardyce is calm on his future and has insisted: “I do not have to defend myself to the owners.

"We all know in terms of where we are. I'm disappointed too, the players are disappointed, and David Sullivan and David Gold are very disappointed in the run we've had up to now.”
