Tom Ince’s strike five minutes before half-time was enough to move Derby one spot above Brighton as Paul Clement’s side went second in the Sky Bet Championship.
Ince scored the only goal of the game as Derby won 1-0 at Ipswich, taking the Rams two points behind league leaders Middlesbrough.
Boro had earlier inflicted Brighton's first league defeat of the season as goals from Kike (4), Albert Adomah (44) and Cristhian Stuani (62) gave the Teesiders a 3-0 win at the Amex Stadium to end the Seagulls unbeaten start at 21 games.
Hull remain fourth despite a 2-0 loss at Championship strugglers Rotherham. Lee Frecklington's first half penalty and Joe Newell's strike three minutes shy of the hour handing The Millers their fifth win of the season.
Burnley stay fifth after hammering Charlton 4-0 at Turf Moor. Scott Arfield scored either side of half-time before Andre Gray (55) and Sam Vokes (78) completed the rout.
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink was denied a first victory as QPR manager after Aaron Wilbraham (80) salvaged a point for Bristol City by cancelling out Junior Hoilett's 56th minute opener in a 1-1 draw at Ashton Gate.
Bolton were denied a second league win this season when Ross McCormack scored an 85th minute equaliser for Fulham in a 2-2 draw at the Macron Stadium. On-loan Everton full-back Luke Garbutt (28) gave Fulham a half-time lead before Zach Clough's double (61, 74) and McCormack's leveller late on.
Sergi Canos (5), Lasse Vibe (21) and two goals from Alan Judge (31, 55 pen) helped Brentford to a 4-2 win against Huddersfield. Joe Lolley (46) and Kyle Dempsey (90) on target for the visitors.
And Nottingham Forest were 2-1 winners over MK Dons. Nelson Oliveira (2) and Ryan Mendes (16) gave Forest an early two-goal lead before Josh Murphy replied for the visitors nine minutes from time.
