Lewis Buxton is keen to feature for Sheffield Wednesday in the Steel City derby on Sunday.
The defender joined the Owls on a one-month loan deal from Premier League outfit Stoke on Friday, just 48 hours before a crunch clash with arch-rivals Sheffield United.
However, the 24-year-old is undaunted by the prospect of a baptism of fire at Hillsborough and would welcome the opportunity to be handed an immediate opportunity to shine.
Excited
"I've only been here for a few days but I can sense there's a real buzz about the place, from the players and the fans," Buxton told the club's
official website.
"Everyone is talking about the derby, everyone's excited about it and I would love to be involved.
"I've come here to play games and what better way to start than the big Sheffield derby? Hopefully I will be selected but I will be glad to play any part required in the defence."
Massive
Buxton is also hoping to impress his employers at Stoke, boosting his chances of top flight action on his return to the Britannia Stadium.
"Stoke have done brilliant to get into the Premiership but it was always going to be difficult to get a game," he added.
"So I needed to come on loan to kick-start my career and show to not only myself what I can do. Hopefully that starts here with the massive game on Sunday."
Utility
Meanwhile, Wednesday boss Brian Laws admits he has brought Buxton in to provide options at the back.
"I think everyone recognised that we're a bit short of cover at the back and we've taken a few injuries of late," he said.
"We've been looking up and down the country for a utility player at the back and it's not been easy. But we've got Lewis in, he was really keen to come to the club and he's the right sort at a good age.
"He can play right-back, centre-back and left-back and should prove a very good addition to the team. With five games in 14 days to come, it is imperative we have strength in numbers."
