Laws left hurting by derby defeat

Simon Davey admits he got 'a bit heated' during Barnsley's win over Sheffield Wednesday, which left Brian Laws 'hurting'. Tykes boss Davey was unhappy with Tony McMahon's challenge on Rob Kozluk in the first half which resulted in the Owls full-back being sent off. Davey was involved in a furious exchange with McMahon and he concedes he should not have got involved in the incident. "I got a bit heated because I felt it was a bad tackle," said Davey. "He caught Kozzie and he could have done some damage. I didn't think it was right, but perhaps I shouldn't have got involved in that, but it was a bad tackle. It was a sending-off offence."

Brilliant

Iain Hume and Jamal Campbell-Ryce secured the 2-1 win for Barnsley and Davey felt his team deserved to win the South Yorkshire derby. Davey added: "We thoroughly deserved it. From the off we were the better side. "They had a 10-minute spell in the second half when they got the penalty, but we could have been three or four up at half-time. "The lads were brilliant today. They showed everything. They can play, but they showed the passion and the commitment and they worked their socks off and they deserved their win." After beating city rivals Sheffield United on Sunday, Owls boss Laws was disappointed to taste defeat at Oakwell.
Nervy
Laws said: "Defeats are hard to take in any game let alone a local derby, so I'm hurting. "It's my first derby loss since I've been at the football club and I don't like it. I don't like the taste. "Having said that, credit to Barnsley. Their plan to get at us early was good and I thought we looked nervy. "I'd love to get my best 11 out, but I just couldn't do it. "When you take (Richard) Wood, (James) O'Connor and (Steve) Watson out of your team - they were our three best players on Sunday." The Owls chief also had no complaints about McMahon's decision, saying: "I will say the referee got one right and that was the sending-off. I don't question that and I'm not going to argue with that at all. "But that was the one and only decision he got right all night."
