Alan Knill has left his post as manager of Bury to take over as the new boss of Scunthorpe United.

Former Bury boss bound for Glanford Park

Alan Knill has left his post as manager of Bury to take over as the new boss of Scunthorpe United on a rolling contract. The Iron have been searching for a new man at the helm following their decision to axe Ian Baraclough earlier in March after just six months in charge. A statement on Scunthorpe's official website read: "The Iron can confirm the appointment of Bury boss Alan Knill as first-team manager." Bury revealed on Wednesday that they had received an official approach for Knill's services, although they did not identify the interested club, with the Shakers boss having spent four years of his playing career with Scunthorpe. And the League Two promotion hopefuls announced on Thursday that Knill, who had been in charge at Gigg Lane since February 2008, was bound for the Championship side, along with his backroom team.

Compensation

A statement on Bury's official website read: "It is with deep regret that we announce Alan Knill is no longer manager of Bury Football Club. "The club have reluctantly agreed a compensation package with Scunthorpe United for Alan to take over the manager's role with immediate effect. "Assistant manager Chris Brass and goalie coach Neil Cutler have also left the club." Knill leaves Bury with the club firmly in the race for promotion to League One and takes charge of a Scunthorpe outfit battling to beat the drop in the Championship. The 46-year-old, the third man at the helm of the Iron this term, inherits a side five points adrift of safety with just eight games remaining with his first match in charge Saturday's testing trip to promotion-chasing Norwich.
