Boss keeps forwards on their toes
Coventry manager Andy Thorn is delighted to finally have competition for places up front and has challenged his strikers to fight for their spot in the team.
Veteran Clive Platt made his first start of the season last Saturday after recovering from a back complaint that stretched back to the end of the last campaign.
He formed a useful partnership with Lukas Jutkiewicz, with the former Everton striker scoring his fifth of the season in a 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest at the Ricoh Arena.
A further boost for Thorn is the return to full fitness of deadline day signing Cody McDonald, giving the Coventry boss real options up front.
Thorn was full of praise for the performances of Platt and Jutkiewicz at the weekend in what was only the Sky Blues' second win of the season, but warned they have to keep it up if they want to stay in the side.
"[Platt] did well on Saturday after a long time coming back," Thorn told the
Coventry Telegraph.
"He and Lukas played against Middlesbrough away last year and did well, but Saturday was only the second time they have played together since we have been in charge and it went well.
"But Cody McDonald is chomping at the bit to come back so there is pressure for places and everyone knows they have to do well."
