Free agent Sean St Ledger is still waiting to discover if he will be offered a contract at Huddersfield Town.

The 29-year-old defender has been training with Mark Robins’ side over the summer in the hope of catching the eye.

He finds himself without a club after being released by Leicester City at the end of last season.

He talks really well and will help everyone at the club if we can get him on the pitch and make sure he’s fit

The Republic of Ireland international is a proven Football League performer, though, with over 350 appearances to his name.

Huddersfield boss Robins is a fan of St Ledger, but admits the former Peterborough United and Preston North End centre-half needs to prove his fitness before terms can be tabled.

St Ledger has suffered from groin and knee problems in the recent past, but he appears to be over those issues now and figured in a pre-season friendly draw with Newcastle United on Tuesday.

Robins said after that contest: “Sean has been out for a long time. This isn’t a trial to see if he can do it, because he clearly can.

“It’s just the mechanics of the whole things, and he looked competent against Newcastle and did himself no harm whatsoever.

“He talks really well and will help everyone at the club if we can get him on the pitch and make sure he’s fit.”

St Ledger posted on his Twitter account after the game: “Really enjoyed that second half with Huddersfield. Don’t know what the future holds as of yet.
