Manager Karl Robinson appears to be staying at MK Dons after club rejects approach from Birmingham

Manager Karl Robinson has suggested he is staying at MK Dons after the League One club turned down an approach from Birmingham.

Sky sources had earlier revealed how Birmingham asked the Dons for permission to speak to the 34-year-old Liverpudlian about taking charge of the Championship team following Lee Clark’s sacking on Monday.

Robinson insists he was surprised by interest from the Blues, but appears to be going nowhere after Dons chairman Peter Winkelman rejected the request.

Speaking after Tuesday night’s 2-1 win over Fleetwood, he said: "I believe there's been an approach, but it's not something for me to get involved in.

"One thing I can say is that it's come as a shock and I think everyone has conducted themselves wonderfully well.

"I don't know how it's got out but it's something that has got into the public domain, although my agent found out about it by reading it.

"It's happened and the chairman said 'no' and we move on. I'm flattered by their approach but I'm just as flattered by the chairman's response."

Clark was axed by Birmingham after last weekend’s 1-0 defeat by Bolton left the club just one place above the drop-zone, with 11 points from 12 games.
