Among contenders is Nottingham Forest midfielder Chris Cohen, who is on a mission to end a decade of misery at the City Ground as he aims to help the club seal a welcome return to the Premier League.
The former West Ham and Yeovil man has emerged as a key performer for Billy Davies' highflying side, and on Saturday he netted the winner against Middlesbrough.
"There has been a lot of hurt here over the last few years and there is pressure on us," said Cohen.
"Forest were too big to be in League One, but we're finally on an upward trail rather than a downward spiral.
"I am desperate to play at the top again."
If Forest boss Davies had got his way, then Swansea midfielder Darren Pratley would now be playing alongside Cohen at the City Ground.
Pratley has been in fine form for the Welsh outfit this term and Davies was left disappointed after his £1.5million bid for the player was turned down by the Swans on transfer deadline day.
Another eye-catching display from Pratley helped Paulo Sousa's men climb to fourth in the table after a 1-0 success at Derby at the weekend.
Meanwhile, Andy Carroll is forging impressive partnerships at leaders Newcastle with both Peter Lovenkrands and new signing Leon Best.
Carroll reached double figures after a productive February, which included a recent brace against Cardiff. The target man has scored four goals in five appearances already this month, and will threaten to get more in the game against Watford at the weekend.
West Brom pair Graham Dorrans and Roman Bednar have also been on the goal sheet regularly in recent weeks.
Dorrans took his tally to 12 for the season with a goal in the 2-1 defeat at Bristol City on Sunday, while Czech Republic international Bednar has scored four times for the Baggies since the end of December.
