Skysports.com selects the best of the bunch from the opening Football League weekend.

Team of the week

Kasper Schmeichel - Leeds United
Danish shot-stopper Schmeichel looks set to follow in the footsteps of his famous father (former Manchester United keeper Peter), with an impressive debut for new employers Leeds against Derby seeing him pull off a string of fine saves.
Ryan Cresswell - Rotherham United
Cresswell proved to be an unlikely hero for Rotherham over the weekend, as he pounced two minutes from time to snatch a 2-1 victory over Lincoln City and hand the much-fancied Millers a perfect start.
Darren Ward - Millwall
Kenny Jackett brought Ward back to The Den this summer on a permanent deal and was handed an immediate return on his investment as the commanding centre-half found the target in Millwall's shock 3-0 victory over Bristol City
Rob Jones - Scunthorpe United
Another defender to find the target in the opening round of fixtures, Scunthorpe's Jones helped the Iron make a mockery of the pre-season doom-mongers as they saw off Reading 2-1 at the Madejski Stadium.
Lee Collins - Port Vale
Port Vale would probably have settled for a point ahead of their trip to Bury, but left Gigg Lane with all three courtesy of a rare goal from promising defender Collins, who found the target shortly after the hour mark.
Anthony Pilkington - Huddersfield Town
Much is expected of Huddersfield this season and they put down a marker on Saturday as they eased past newly-promoted Notts County 3-0, with wing wizard Pilkington bagging a brace at Meadow Lane.
Darren Ambrose - Crystal Palace
Palace fans must have feared they had seen the last of Ambrose when he became embroiled in a long-running transfer saga this summer. However, having penned a new contract at Selhurst Park, he was back on the goal trail in a 3-2 victory over Leicester.
Adel Taarabt - Queens Park Rangers
Having made his loan move at QPR permanent over the summer, Taarabt hit the ground running on Saturday as he led from the front in a 4-0 demolition of Barnsley - including converting a 63rd-minute penalty.
Matt Sparrow - Brighton & Hove Albion
Sparrow instantly endeared himself to the Brighton faithful on his competitive debut for the club, with a well-taken brace in a 2-1 victory away at Swindon seeing the Seagulls to three points on the opening day.
Jake Robinson - Shrewsbury Town
The star of the show this weekend, Shrewsbury's Robinson ran Bradford ragged on Saturday as he bagged an opening day hat-trick. He is now just one goal short of equalling his return for the entire 2009/10 campaign.
Danny Graham - Watford
Watford have been tipped by many to endure a difficult time in the Championship but if their flying start at Norwich is anything to go by, they should have nothing to worry about. A 3-2 win at Carrow Road in the first fixture of the new season was inspired by a deadly double from Graham.
