Wide-man believes battling attitude is responsible for success

James McFadden believes Birmingham's 'never-say-die' spirit is responsible for their eye-catching form of late. The unfancied Blues have emerged as this season's surprise package upon their return to the Premier League. A run of five successive victories in the league has propelled them up to sixth, a position few would have predicted upon their promotion from the Championship. McFadden believes a buoyant spirit within the St Andrews dressing room has been pivotal to their success. "I've said all along I didn't think we played particularly well last season," he said on the club's official website. "It was about getting out of the league and we got there in the end. "But this season we've added some good quality players and we're on a good run and I think we deserve it because we've worked hard and played some good football at times and it's nice to be a part of it. "We've got a settled side now, a great team spirit and a never say die attitude. He added: "Of course people are waiting for us to fall flat on our faces so the manager sets us challenges to keep it going and thankfully we've been able to do that. "We're on a great run and we've just got to enjoy it while it lasts because there are probably going to be times when we're losing games and it will take character to bounce back from that."
