Ownership issue likely to prevent January switch for FC Moscow striker
Maxi Lopez is unlikely to move to the Premier League this month, his British agent has confirmed.
The Argentine striker has been linked with a number of English clubs with Birmingham City reported to be keenest on a deal.
The 25-year-old is currently with FC Moscow, having recently returned from a successful loan stint in Brazil with Gremio.
Moscow signed Lopez from Barcelona in 2007 after an unsuccessful time at Camp Nou, which also saw him loaned to Real Mallorca.
But now he has been strongly linked with a move to England and the fact he has an Italian passport also means there would be no issues with a work permit.
However, his representative in Britain, Barry McIntosh, admits a deal during the January transfer window is unlikely.
"There has been interest, but I cannot see something being done this month," McIntosh told
skysports.com.
"The problem is over his ownership as FC Moscow do not own 100 per cent of the player.
"At this moment we have been unable to completely ascertain the situation with regards his ownership and that means things are complicated.
"We are confident it will not be an issue, but the time frame at the moment means it would be difficult to get him to England during this window."
