Spartak skipper could make St Andrew's switch

Sky Sports Sources understand Birmingham are in talks with Spartak Moscow captain Martin Jiranek over a possible move. The 31-year-old defender, who usually plays in central defence, will travel to the UK on Monday night to discuss the deal. Reports suggest the stopper can depart Spartak for a nominal fee after refusing to sign a contract extension at the Russian club. Blues boss Alex McLeish revealed on Monday he is looking to bolster his resources before the transfer window shuts on Tuesday, which potentially opens the door for Jiranek. The Czech international, who joined Spartak from Italian outfit Reggina, has become a permanent first-team fixture since arriving in Moscow in 2004.
