Jerome - Survival the priority

Cameron Jerome has stressed staying up is Birmingham's priority rather than winning the Carling Cup.

Striker says Carling Cup is just a bonus for Birmingham

Cameron Jerome has stressed staying in the Premier League is Birmingham City's priority rather than winning the Carling Cup. Birmingham made it through to the semi-finals of the cup last week with victory over local rivals Aston Villa and will face West Ham United over two legs for the right to go to Wembley. However, while Jerome is satisfied to have a chance of reaching a cup final, he is adamant top-flight survival is more important. Though the Blues have lost just once in their last eight league games, Alex McLeish's side have won only three times in 16 matches and are three points outside the relegation zone.

Bonus

"The league is our bread and butter and the cup is a bonus," said Jerome. "It's nice to get to the semi-finals and obviously we want to get to the final and Wembley. "We've got a chance of winning it and anything is possible in football. "But we've got to keep our feet on the ground, concentrate on the league and not slip into the relegation zone. "A couple of defeats, and a couple of wins for other teams, and you can be right back down there." Jerome added: "We've drawn with Man City and Tottenham and beaten Chelsea in recent weeks, teams that are all going for the title. "There is confidence but these are bonus points and the gaffer has said we've got to keep our feet on the ground."
