Birmingham's Sebastian Larsson looks set to stay in England after rebuffing the advances of Atletico Madrid, skysports.com understands. Now it is believed that Sunderland, Blackburn and Aston Villa are battling for the Sweden international's signature. Newcastle have already had a bid accepted for the Birmingham midfielder, but they could not agree personal terms. Spanish giants Atletico and Valencia were among the sides strongly linked with a swoop and Larsson has talked with them as he seriously considered a move abroad.

The Madrid club had even offered him terms, but he rejecting their advances instead opting to continue his career in the Premier League. It now remains to be seen if Larsson will leave this month, as Birmingham would want, or whether he will stay put until the summer when he can move on for free. Villa made an enquiry last week to take Larsson from their Second City rivals, while Blackburn have long been monitoring the situation. Sunderland boss Steve Bruce remains a huge fan, having originally signed him for Birmingham.
