Stephen Carr is delighted to be getting the chance to visit Wembley again and has hailed Birmingham boss Alex McLeish.
The 34-year-old has seen his career rejuvenated under McLeish after originally retiring from the game in December 2008.
After two months out of football, he was offered a route back into the game by McLeish and he has not looked back since.
Now the former Tottenham and Newcastle man is gearing up for the Carling Cup final later this month, and it sees him returning to Wembley 12 years after his last visit.
"This is a fantastic opportunity for me, and that goes for Barry Ferguson as well," he told
The People.
"It didn't work out for him at Blackburn but the manager brought him here and he was unbelievable in the semi-final.
"I was given a chance by the manager too - and I have taken it. The club took a chance on us and we have repaid them for that.
"The last time I was at Wembley was a while ago, when Tottenham played Leicester. I can hardly even remember it to be honest, apart from the fact it was a poor game.
"I don't think there are many great games in finals but the whole thing, especially the atmosphere, was amazing. I can't wait to get back there, I'm really looking forward to it.
"I didn't expect to make it to Wembley this season and some players never get the chance to do so.
"I thought those days were well gone! I'm lucky but now that it has happened I'm going to enjoy it. People say the Carling Cup isn't a big cup but try telling that to our lads. They are buzzing.
"It means so much to us, the hunger has really been there and now we have to do ourselves proud.
"We'll be underdogs against Arsenal but I don't care who we are playing. Cup games throw up some funny results."
