Turner taking his time

Sunderland's Michael Turner has refused to set a date for his return as he recovers from a knee injury.

Crocked stopper will not rush comeback

Injured Sunderland defender Michael Turner has refused to set a date for his return as he recovers from knee ligament damage. The centre-back sustained the knock after colliding with a post in last month's 2-2 draw with Everton and has been out of action ever since. And the 27-year-old, who is likely to be sidelined until February, does not want to put added pressure on himself by setting a comeback date. "It can be demoralising if you let it, but I'm keeping my spirits up," Turner told the Daily Star. "It wouldn't be a good idea to set a definite return date, once you do that you're in danger of putting pressure on yourself and setting yourself up for disappointment." Turner is reluctant to hurry his recovery, but is optimistic of returning after the festive period. He added: "It's an injury you'd be unwise to rush back from. You've got to just go with the programme and allow the ligaments time to heal. "I'll maybe get the brace off my knee next week and start looking to build up fitness with a view to coming back sometime in the New Year."
