David Vaughan wants his form for Wales in the upcoming Euro 2012 qualifiers to propel him into the team at Sunderland.
The midfielder joined from Blackpool over the summer on a free transfer after a stellar campaign alongside Charlie Adam in the Seasiders engine room.
Vaughan was in the Black Cats team for their opening game of the season at Anfield but has been an unused substitute in their subsequent two matches.
At international level, though, the skilful midfielder is very much part of Gary Speed's plans and is poised to start for Wales against Montenegro at Cardiff City Stadium.
Opportunity
It will be an opportunity for Vaughan to show his cultured playing style and he hopes to give Bruce a timely reminder of his qualities.
"I have enjoyed it so far at Sunderland. I am getting used to a new environment but it has gone quite well," he said.
"I played in the first game at Liverpool, I came on, but I have not played since. That's been a bit disappointing but going to a new club you sometimes have to wait and bide your time.
"This week gives an opportunity to play some games for Wales hopefully, and if I can do well it will help my chances of playing more regularly for Sunderland."
