Derby are waiting to discover the extent of the injury Will Hughes sustained at the weekend.

Hughes had to be withdrawn at half-time against Nottingham Forest due to thigh and ankle problems.

The enforced substitution of the teenage midfielder, with Derby leading 1-0, coincided with the Rams surrendering their dominance over their east midlands rivals and Forest went on to win 2-1 at the iPro Stadium.

But Derby head coach Steve McClaren insisted the defeat had nothing to do with losing the 19-year-old.

"He had knocks to the thigh and ankle," said McClaren after the game on Saturday.

"We had enough footballers out there. We had a midfield of [Jeff] Hendrick, [Craig] Bryson and [Omar] Mascarell - they are all football players."
