Striker arrives from Scunthorpe on free transfer

Preston have made Scunthorpe striker Paul Hayes their first signing of the summer on a free transfer. The 26-year-old, who scored 13 goals this season and won Scunthorpe's Player of the Year award, has agreed a three-year-deal. Hayes is looking forward to playing at Deepdale under Darren Ferguson next season. "I am very pleased to have this deal done, it has been in the press and kicking around for a long time and I am very pleased to be here now," Hayes told the club's official website. "The manager sold it to me. I've had a few meetings with managers from other clubs but as soon as I got here he has welcomed me and my family and the manager, Darren Ferguson, sold it to me. "The club is very ambitious, with a very ambitious manager and I am at that point in my career where I need to push on with my career. I am hoping that this is the club to take my career forward."
