Roberto Di Matteo has confirmed West Brom are in talks over a possible deal for Eric Djemba-Djemba.

Baggies boss hoping to conclude deal for midfielder

Roberto Di Matteo has confirmed West Bromwich Albion are in talks over a possible deal for former Manchester United midfielder Eric Djemba-Djemba. The Cameroon international has been given permission by his Danish club Odense to travel to England to discuss a potential return to the Premier League. He watched the Baggies' friendly defeat by Doncaster Rovers on Tuesday night and Di Matteo acknowledged his interest in Djemba-Djemba. "Eric has come over to talk to us, but we haven't got anything to announce yet," said the West Brom boss. "It is still ongoing and we hope there will be a resolution soon. He's had a good couple of years in Denmark. "We are looking for players who have experience in the highest leagues whether it is England, Germany, Spain, Denmark or Switzerland."

No Wood loan

Di Matteo also revealed that he is not currently willing to send Chris Wood out on loan after the striker returned to training after playing for New Zealand at the World Cup. He added on the club's official website: "Woodsy's only just got back so he's not going anywhere at the moment. "We've had a lot of requests for him, but with our situation he's not going anywhere just yet. "We're very much working behind the scenes on bringing a new striker in, but it's difficult. Everyone is after a good striker, but it's a difficult task."
