Former Chelsea scout in the frame as Ashworth's replacement

Sky Sports understands former Chelsea chief scout Lee Congleton is in the frame to replace Dan Ashworth as West Brom's sporting and technical director. Ashworth is quitting his role with the Baggies at the end of the season to take up the position as the Football Association's new director of elite development. West Brom are now drawing up a shortlist of replacements to succeed Ashworth and Congleton is thought to figure highly among their targets. Ashworth is largely responsible for player recruitment and the Academy at West Brom and Congleton would fit the bill to fill the role.

Targets

Congleton was highly-regarded during his time working at Chelsea where he was Under 19s coach before taking up the role of chief scout where he helped the club identify their transfer targets. Congleton is currently working as technical director at Hamburg alongside sporting director Frank Arnesen, who he followed out of Chelsea. Tottenham are also thought to be weighing up a move for Congleton as they are looking to bring in a technical director and recruitment specialist to help manager Andre Villas-Boas. Roma general manager Franco Baldini has been linked with the role at White Hart Lane, but he has pledged his future to the Italian club.
