Tony Pulis will be unveiled as head coach of West Brom at a press conference at 2:30 this afternoon after the club confirmed he will become their new boss on a two-and-a-half-year contract.

The former Stoke and Crystal Palace manager watched from the stands on New Year’s Day as West Brom held West Ham to a 1-1 draw at Upton Park.

West Brom's Ben Foster says Tony Pulis was hands off during their draw with West Ham but gave them a bit more impetus and will help them start turning draw

Pulis will take charge of his first match as Baggies boss at home to Gateshead in the FA Cup on Saturday after Alan Irvine was sacked following a run of seven defeats in nine Premier League matches.

West Brom captain Chris Brunt believes the board has made the right choice and feels Pulis years of management experience will help them pull clear of the relegation zone and retain their top-flight status.

“With the position that we find ourselves in at the minute, I don’t think that there is a better guy for the job,” Brunt told the club’s official website.

“The players have all met Tony and he has told us what he expects from us as a group and as individuals. He said that we aren’t a million miles away, and all the players know that.

Impressed

“I know a few lads who have played under him in the past who have been impressed, his record speaks for itself.

“He seems very hands on, he is here to do a job and that is to get points on the board and help us climb the league. He was very positive when he spoke to us and he also told us what he wanted to do.

“I don’t think that there will be any grey areas with him, which is a good thing because having grey areas costs teams points in this league.

“I’m sure that we will get lots sorted over the next few weeks on the training ground and hopefully we will start rising up the table.”
