Wolves promoted to Premier League after Fulham draw with Brentford

Ruben Neves celebrates after scoring with a stunning long-range volley

Wolves have been promoted to the Premier League after Fulham's late draw against rivals Brentford assured Nuno Espirito Santo's side of a top-two finish.

The West Midlands club ended a six-year spell away from the top flight without kicking a ball on Saturday, as they prepare to face Birmingham in a local derby live on Sky Sports Football on Sunday.

The runaway leaders needed third-place Fulham to drop points and seal promotion, and after Aleksandar Mitrovic put Slavisa Jokanovic's side on course for victory, Neal Maupay's 94th-minute strike for Brentford sparked celebrations in the Black Country.

Wolves have been top of the Championship since November 18, as they went on a run of 14 games unbeaten, and they have only lost three times since that date, winning 16 games in that time.

Ruben Neves' superb goal against Derby for Wolves was the latest in a string of incredible strikes by the Portuguese midfielder

With four games left, they have 92 points from 28 wins, eight draws and six defeats, and former Wolves striker and Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman said: "It's been really special. It's thoroughly deserved.

"They've been the best team in the league and the style of play they've adopted to get there will give them a real platform next year."

Former Porto boss Santo took over from the sacked Paul Lambert last summer and revamped the team's playing style, while smashing the club's transfer record by signing Porto star Reuben Neves for £15.8million.
