Moxey doubts striker did criticise club
Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey believes Stefan Maierhofer may have been misquoted after scathing comments were attributed to the striker earlier this week.
The Austrian was quoted in an English newspaper as saying that he did not 'have a clue' why he had not been selected in the Wolves team of late, while he also reportedly accused the club of 'taking the p***' out of him.
Wolves have launched an investigation to discover whether Maierhofer actually made those remarks and are so far not convinced that he did.
Moxey thinks an interview conducted abroad may have misrepresented the 27-year-old and will not be taking any disciplinary action at this stage.
Maierhofer joined Bristol City on loan on Monday and Moxey has also contacted the Robins to find out what they know about the situation.
"Of course we have spoken to Stefan and his agent, we have seen a basis of an interview he gave abroad and translated that, but can't find anything that actually corroborates what is being reported," Moxey told the
Express & Star.

"We have spoken to all sorts of people and we can't see where anyone has said this.
"Bristol City's people have given us information about the comments Stefan made and nothing was said in that regard, so it seems like someone has taken a liberty in the extreme.
"But we will continue to look into it but as far as we are concerned, this sort of thing would be dealt with internally and we will not be making any further comment about it.
"All we are interested in is preparing for Saturday's game against Villa."
