Wolves boss says team will not be thinking about points dropped

Wolves manager Mick McCarthy has insisted that his players have not been mentally scarred by conceding so many late goals this season. McCarthy's team prop up the Premier League having been languishing around the bottom of the table all season, with Sunday's 1-1 draw with local rivals West Brom the latest heartache suffered in the dying minutes thanks to Carlos Vela's leveller. It is by no means the first time this has happened this season, with Fulham, Bolton and Manchester United all grabbing late goals to deny them crucial points in their battle to beat the drop. McCarthy has admitted that these reoccurrences were damaging their quest for survival, but does not believe that it will weigh on the players' minds as they prepare for a huge match against Blackpool at Molineux. "I can think of five points we've lost without even drawing breath - Manchester United, Fulham, Bolton, West Brom straight away. Had we not conceded those, we would be sat now on 30 points," he said. "I know every team can say things like that, whether it's by performances or bad decisions, but there are five points that should be in the bag.

Concentration

"It's not just concentration, or just one thing that's happened, but that's certainly cost us. "The players aren't getting scarred by it, though. "Albion got a bit of fortune with their goal against us. On another day that wouldn't have happened, but I don't think they'll be scarred by it at all." With regards to their opponents on Saturday, McCarthy marked out Tangerines boss Ian Holloway as a contender for Manager of the Year due to his achievements at Bloomfield Road this season. "I would say Ian is already a contender for the award," McCarthy added. "Blackpool have been a breath of fresh air and had a terrific result the other evening [3-1 against Tottenham]. "I can't imagine he will alter the way Blackpool have played all season when they face us. "They have been terrific but they also work hard and get back and defend. It is unlikely to be a 0-0. It was very open against Spurs."
