Wolves have confirmed misfit striker Stefan Maierhofer has been given permission to talk to Red Bull Salzburg.
Striker expected to complete move on Monday or Tuesday
Wolves have confirmed misfit striker Stefan Maierhofer has been given permission to hold discussions with Red Bull Salzburg and could complete his transfer on Monday.
The 29-year-old flew out to Austria at the weekend and is set to undergo a medical before a £1million deal is finalised.
Maierhofer has failed to live up to expectations at Molineux since a 2009 arrival from Rapid Vienna and he has spent time on loan at Bristol City and German club Duisburg.
Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey told the
Express and Star: "Stefan has been given permission by Mick and myself to talk to Red Bull Salzburg with a view to a move being concluded today or tomorrow."
Mick McCarthy, Wolves' manager, had said at the beginning of August he was willing to include Maierhofer in his 25-man squad after an encouraging pre-season.
But the potential income from a sale has seemingly proved too attractive at a time when McCarthy will himself be considering transfer targets before 31st August.
