Wolves striker gutted to see red against Armenia

Republic of Ireland striker Kevin Doyle has vented his frustration at being shown a red card against Armenia. The Wolves man was shown a straight red in Ireland's 2-1 Euro 2012 qualifying win for an apparent elbow on Karlen Mkrtchyan. The victory sealed a play-off place for Ireland, however, Doyle is still disappointed to have been sent off for the first time in his professional career. Doyle will now be suspended for the first leg of the play-off and he has questioned whether he even deserved to be sent off. The 28-year-old insists he was challenging for the ball as he always does and that there was nothing sinister in his attempt.

No intent

"I jump the same every time, I don't ever deliberately go up to hurt anyone when I go up for a header, and I didn't hurt him," commented Doyle. "If anything, I barely touched him and he made the most of it. It's the first time since I was about 12. There's a first time for everything. "It's frustrating, but we are through, we are in the play-offs and we are one of the top seeds."
