Norwegian poised to take over at Molineux
Stale Solbakken is expected to be named the new manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers on Friday,
Sky Sports sources understand.
Reports on Thursday emerged from Scandinavia that the former Norway international was in England for talks.
These have since proved to be true and
Sky Sports now understands that the relegated Black Country outfit will unveil Solbakken on Friday.
It is understood that Terry Connor, who stepped up to take charge of the first team following Mick McCarthy's sacking earlier in the season, will revert to his previous role as coach.
The one-time Wimbledon midfielder began his coaching career as boss of Norwegian side Ham-Kam before taking charge of Copenhagen in 2006 where he achieved a great deal of success.
His work at Copenhagen saw him land a move to the Bundesliga with Cologne, but he was sacked by them in April this year and just weeks later they were relegated.
Hindsight
Meanwhile, chief executive Jez Moxey has admitted Wolves could have acted earlier in sacking McCarthy.
He said: "We can all be smart in hindsight. The most talked-about subject was the timing of the parting of Mick McCarthy.
"We could, and perhaps should, have acted before January but we'll never know if it would have worked had we pulled the trigger earlier."
Wolves came in for criticism for Connor's appointment but Moxey admits Alan Curbishley's U-turn forced them to alter their plans.
He said: "Had the manager we offered the job to, and who shook on it, actually gone through with it we'd have been patted on the back."
Moxey also insists it is unfair to blame lack of spending power from club owner Steve Morgan for Wolves' decline this season.
He said: "To point the finger at Steve and say he lacks ambition isn't correct.
"He put the money on the table and I hope nobody believes the final outcome this season is because we didn't spend enough."
