Wolves have terminated the contract of defender Roger Johnson by mutual consent with immediate effect.

A statement on the club's website said: "Wolves and Roger Johnson have reached an agreement to cancel his contract with immediate effect and the player has left Molineux.

"Johnson, who arrived at the club in 2011, made 72 appearances, the most recent of which came on the final day of the 2012/13 season at Brighton.

"Wolves would like to wish the defender good luck for the future."

The 31-year-old arrived at Molineux from Birmingham on a four-year contract in July 2011 and was handed the captaincy - but the club suffered relegation to the Championship.

Johnson was put up for sale in June 2013 following the arrival of new manager Kenny Jackett but ended up joining Sheffield Wednesday on a three-month loan deal.

He spent the second half of the 2013/2014 campaign on loan with West Ham, where he made six appearances in all competitions before returning to Wanderers.
