Southampton defender Jeremy Pied has confirmed he does need knee surgery after being injured in training.
The French full-back suffered the injury in first-team training on August 23 and has confirmed on Twitter that he will need an operation. Pied moved to Southampton from Nice in the first week of August and signed a two-year contract, having rekindled his working relationship with manager Claude Puel for a third time. "I can confirm the bad news for my knee - I need an operation on the cruciate in my knee," he wrote on Twitter."Thank you very much for your messages of support. It's hard for me to digest but it's a trial to overcome.
"I'm determined to give all my energy to come back as soon as possible and you can count on me. Thank you again and I will keep you informed quickly of my future recovery."
Pied's career began with Lyon, before he made his first senior appearances during a loan spell with FC Metz during the 2009/10 campaign.
The full-back returned to Lyon and made 35 appearances across the course of the 2010/11 campaign, going on to win the Coupe de France the following season.
Pied then made the move to Nice to work alongside Puel for the second time. The defender made 83 appearances during his stay with the club, enjoying a loan spell at Guingamp in 2014/15.
