Southampton starlet Gareth Bale has drawn a line under speculation about his future by putting pen-to-paper on a new two-year deal. The talented left back has been the subject of reported interest from Premiership giants Liverpool and Tottenham, with many predicting he would follow on the same path as Theo Walcott in quitting St Mary's for the top flight.
Bale has now, though, concurred on a first professional contract that will bind him to the South Coast outfit until 2008.
Already a full Wales international, Bale is clearly a name to watch out for in the future, but for the moment at least, his future lies with Southampton under George Burley's stewardship.
"I'm absolutely delighted to have signed and got it all sorted out," said Bale.
"It was flattering to see my name linked with a few clubs and I got a bit of stick for that.
''But I'm very happy at Southampton and I can learn a lot more here than at any other club where I would just be a reserve-team player.
"I have the chance of playing regularly and hopefully I can get a good run of games here."
