Southampton legend and Sky Sports pundit Matt Le Tissier takes a look back at the highlights of his playing days and somehow manages to pick his favourite goal
After more than 400 appearances for Southampton, Matt Le Tissier will forever be remembered as a star of the Premier League. Here the former England international and now Sky Sports pundit takes a look back at a career that was packed full of spectacular goals.Career highlight - England at Wembley
Stepping out at Wembley with an England shirt on. It was against Denmark in 1994 and Terry Venables called me into the squad. I came on for David Batty, I think. We won 1-0. It is a regret I did not get more than my eight England caps. If you ask most players, everyone wants a bit more. But I was really proud to play for England. It is something no-one will ever take away from me.
Favourite goal - Versus Blackburn (10/12/1994)
That would be the one I scored at Blackburn against my old mate, Tim Flowers. I went on a little dribble, beat a couple of players and then, from around 30 or 35 yards, I hit it into Tim's top right-hand corner.Toughest opponent - Stuart Pearce
I do not even have to think about that. He frightened the life out of me until I was about 24-years-old and I put on a bit of weight, which meant I could withstand the tackles a bit more. Pretty much every tackle from Stuart sticks in my memory. It does not surprise me that he has gone on to manage England, because of the passion he used to show. He was a cracking player and was always committed to the cause.
Favourite match - Southampton 3 Arsenal 2 (19/5/2001)
It was the last game at The Dell. We beat Arsenal 3-2 and I came on as a substitute and scored the winner in the last couple of minutes. That would take some beating.Football hero - Glenn Hoddle
I loved his range of passing and the spectacular goals from outside the box. I thought he made football look very easy.Joker - Tim Flowers
He did not use to play that many practical jokes, but it did not matter what stick you gave him, he would always have something to come back and make you look stupid. He was very quick-witted in the changing room. You could not get the better of him.
Best friend in football - Francis Benali
We are the same age and have known each other since we were 15-years-old. We spent our entire careers together, really. He went to Nottingham Forest on loan for maybe a month or two and that was about it. We were team-mates together for more years than we care to remember. We are still very good friends now. We live around the corner from each other and the wives are also best friends. It is lovely.Matt Le Tissier was signing the official Sport Relief T-shirt at the Sportsdirect.com store in Southampton.
