Sheffield Wednesday aiming to bake a world record cake as part of their 150th anniversary

Sheffield Wednesday have marked their 150th anniversary by setting a new world record.

The club are celebrating their landmark with a gala dinner tomorrow and the crowning glory of that dinner will be a record breaking cake.

They were going for the biggest ever cake shaped like a ball and the representative sent by Guinness World records confirmed they had easily broken the previous record.

Wednesday boss Carlos Carvalhal is hoping for success this season as they look to secure promotion to the Premier League after two near misses.
