Sheffield Wednesday have completed the signing of Marnick Vermijl from Manchester United and the defender has signed a three and a half year deal.
The 23-year-old Belgian is a highly-regarded prospect and, although mainly a right-back, he has the versatility to play anywhere across the back four.
The Owls website reported: “Marnick proved a big influence for the United reserves in 2012 as the Red Devils lifted the title, earning a loan move to Dutch Eredivisie side NEC Nijmegen for whom he played 28 games, chipping in with three goals.
“Vermijl has also represented Belgium at every level from U17s to U21s, earning 43 caps in total and scoring five times.”
The defender joined United from Standard Liege in 2010 but he has made just two League Cup appearances for the Old Trafford side and manager Louis van Gaal has now allowed him to head to Hillsbrough.
It was a busy deadline day for Sheffield Wednesday and they have also signed midfielder Filipe Joaquim Melo Silva from Portuguese team Moreirenses on a three and a half year deal, for an undisclosed fee.
The Owls website reported: "The towering midfielder is known as Melo in Portugal, where he has played for Moreirense since 2013.
"Melo soon developed into a fans’ favourite and captained Moreirense to the Portugese top tier last season."
He became Wednesday's fourth signing of the day, following Vermijl, Sergiu Bus and Lewis McGugan.
