Neil Warnock says Manchester City's quality shone through at Cardiff

Neil Warnock admits Manchester City's quality shone through as his Cardiff side were beaten 5-0 by the Premier League champions.

Cardiff's wait for a first league win goes on, and they were always set for a difficult afternoon against a City side who were smarting from their Champions League defeat in midweek.

Although the Bluebirds defended resolutely for the opening 30 minutes, Sergio Aguero broke the deadlock before Bernardo Silva and Ilkay Gundogan extended City's advantage going into the break.

Cardiff weathered the storm somewhat in the second half, though they were unable to prevent substitute Riyad Mahrez from scoring twice on a comfortable afternoon for Pep Guardiola's side.

"It was always going to be tough," Warnock told Sky Sports. "We started the game well but it just shows you (what happens) when you make a mistake, it's our corner kick that they scored from.

"To go two down so early after that first goal, you could see one or two heads go down. All credit to them, I thought they did well second half.

"That quality just shone though. One lapse and Aguero does what he's good at, and I think the second one is a fluke. I don't think [Silva] meant to do that, but that's what you do when you're going well.

"You don't want to get turned over as much as we did in the end today. From our point of view, the goals have been poor in the past few weeks.

"We must keep our heads up. It's difficult when you get beat like that, but they're a good group and I'm sure they'll be ready to go for next week."

Meanwhile, Warnock suspects Lee Peltier has dislocated his shoulder after the defender was stretched off early in the second half.

Warnock added: "At the moment I think it's dislocated, so that's disappointing to cap everything else, but he's a tough lad. He'll get himself back as quick as possible."
