Caretaker boss says Wales must not rely on Bellamy
Caretaker manager Brian Flynn wants Wales to show they are not just a one-man team in this month's critical Euro 2012 qualifiers.
Wales meet Bulgaria in a must-win clash at Cardiff City stadium next Friday, before travelling to Switzerland four days later.
And Flynn, who took over after Toshack stood down in the wake of last month's defeat in Montenegro, feels the side can win without their talisman Craig Bellamy.
The Wales captain has been sidelined through injury and was not named in Flynn's 24-man squad.
Accepted
"Craig Bellamy would definitely start in any Wales team. Unfortunately, Craig's not just right at the moment," said Flynn.
"I have discussed it with (Cardiff manager) Dave (Jones) at length, and I am quite happy with the situation we find ourselves in.
"Dave has explained it in detail. Craig's knee is not great, and he has to be careful with it.
"As a manager, you have to accept injury situations and deal with them as they are. I have accepted Dave's explanation, and I am quite happy with that.
"Yes, I would like Craig to be playing. If he was fit for both games, great, but the likelihood is he wouldn't be.
"The other players who have come in have got to step up. They've got to show we can win without Craig Bellamy, that's what they have got to try to prove.
"He hasn't played for five games. I think Craig knows his own body and is acutely aware of what he can and can't do.
"I spoke to Dave prior to going out to Lithuania 12 days or so ago. I have been fully aware of this for nearly two weeks now. He is unavailable for both games."
