Striker to join from Preston on two-and-a-half-year deal

Jon Parkin is to join Cardiff on a two-and-a-half-year contract from Preston after an agreement was finalised. Skysports.com revealed earlier on Saturday that the striker was set to clinch a move and the Bluebirds have now confirmed the news. The 29-year-old was not involved in Preston's squad for the New Year's Day game against Derby as the transfer neared a completion. Everything has now been sorted between the clubs and Parkin has put pen to paper on the deal. The paperwork is expected to be authorised by the Football League and the Football Association of Wales in the coming days. Parkin, whose contract with Preston was set to expire in the summer, could therefore make his Cardiff debut against Leeds on Tuesday night. Preston also confirmed the switch and showed their appreciation for a player who has been at Deepdale since August 2008. A club statement said: "Preston North End would like to place on record their thanks to Parkin and wish him all the best for the future."
