Council vow to keep Palace in current home

Croydon Council have vowed to do all they can to ensure Selhurst Park remains a sporting venue. The future of the famous ground has been cast into doubt due to the financial troubles being endured by tenants Crystal Palace. The Championship outfit are currently in the hands of administrator Brendan Guilfoyle, who is attempting to find a buyer for the club. Should the monetary problems continue for much longer, Palace will be forced to part with their most saleable assets. That is likely to mean key players will be moved on, but could also have ramifications off the field.

Non-negotiable

It had been suggested that Selhurst Park could be rented out or even sold, to help raise revenue, but councillor Jason Perry is adamant the ground will not be used for anything other than sporting events. "Because Crystal Palace is so important to our borough, the council wants to do everything in its powers to ensure the future of the club at Selhurst Park," he said. "The council wants to make it clear to anyone considering a financial stake in the club that the future of the ground is non-negotiable. "As far as the council are concerned, Selhurst Park is a sports venue and it will remain that way."
