Eagles manager set to reply to FA request

Crystal Palace boss Neil Warnock has revealed he is set to reply to the FA after it asked him to explain his comments following the FA Cup tie with Aston Villa. Warnock slammed linesman Trevor Massey shortly after the final whistle at Selhurst Park, with Villa captain Stiliyan Petrov netting an equaliser three minutes from time to salvage a 2-2 draw for the Premier League side. The controversial Palace manager fumed at Massey after he awarded Villa a corner in the build-up to the late goal, as the ball bounced off Nathan Delfouneso before it went out of play and should have been a goal-kick. Warnock called for Massey to be suspended in his post-match interview, although his forthright opinion has since been taken back a notch. "My wife told me on Sunday night not to forget that we got a goal through Danny Butterfield which was a corner we had, that was a goal-kick, in the previous round (against Wolves)," he told Sky Sports. "She dampened me down a little bit there. "Obviously they've asked me for my observations on what I said and there's only one sentence that they're concerned with and I'm going to reply to that. "I think I should reply to them first and let them know the situation really."

Accountable

Warnock, a qualified referee himself, still believes officials should be accountable for their decisions, though, and only regrets letting fly so soon after the final whistle with a hot head. "I think they are accountable now," he added. "I think it's a good thing that they miss one or two games if it's a crucial decision that they've got wrong. "I suppose in a way if I hadn't had the microphone thrust at me with about 10 minutes after the game it might have been different. "But I'm going to reply to them as I would do and we'll see what happens."
