Nathaniel Clyne says he turned down a January transfer window move to Wolves so he could play regularly.
Defender says he is better off at Palace
Crystal Palace stalwart Nathaniel Clyne says he turned down a last minute deadline day move to Wolves because he wanted to continue playing for the cash-strapped club.
Administrators at the troubled London side accepted a bid from Mick McCarthy's Wolves for the promising right-back, only for the 18-year-old to reject the move.
Clyne said he would not follow fellow emerging talents Victor Moses and John Bostock out of the Selhurst Park door because he did not want to sit on the bench with a top flight side.
The defender said he would be better off playing regularly for the Championship club and insisted it was his decision to stay with Neil Warnock's men.
"I decided to stay at Crystal Palace," said Clyne. "No-one else, it was just me. I am old enough now to make my own decisions and my family just told me to do what I wanted to do.
"It is my career and I have to do what I want, that way you cannot blame someone if it doesn't work out. I know the only way I am going to become a top player is to be playing games week in, week out.
"I could have gone to Wolves and there would have been added benefits for me doing that but I didn't think I would play and at my age I can't be sitting on the bench all of the time, I need to be playing."
