New Palace boss to hold contract talks with QPR target

New Crystal Palace manager George Burley is hoping to persuade Darren Ambrose to reject a move to Championship rivals Queens Park Rangers. Ambrose appeared set to join QPR in a £750,000 deal, with Neil Warnock suggesting the midfielder had already agreed terms to head to Loftus Road. However, Palace have subsequently secured their financial future after the CPFC 2010 consortium completed a takeover and appointed Burley as manager. Burley handed Ambrose his professional debut at Ipswich Town and knows how important the 26-year-old is to Palace's future. He is determined to keep the former Newcastle United man in his squad and is aiming to convince Ambrose to sign a new contract with Palace. "I brought Darren through as a kid and gave him debut at 17 at Ipswich," said Burley. "I think maybe he was too young when he left Ipswich for Newcastle. "He scored 20 goals last season and he is a player I want to keep. He's a top player and we will be trying to get him to extend his contract."
