Crystal Palace defender Paddy McCarthy has signed a one-year contract extension to keep him at the club until the end of the season.

McCarthy joined Palace from London rivals Charlton in 2008 and has played over 150 times for the club, overcoming a troublesome groin injury to force his way into manager Neil Warnock’s 25-man Premier League squad.

He has so far been restricted to two Capital One Cup appearances this season but is delighted to have committed his future to the club.

“I'm delighted, it gives me a bit of security and allows me to remain settled at the club,” he said.

“I've worked my socks off over the past couple of years to get back fit and I'm really pleased to be out on the pitch in amongst the action."

As well as playing for the two south London clubs, 31-year-old McCarthy has also represented Boston, Notts County and Leicester, as well as the Republic of Ireland at B level
